FWIW, I've tried some projection stuff, and while find the concept of doing some kind of scan/and then projection based of that to be an amazing concept, it been pretty easy to get cool results going just be sitting there and piping the image to render patches at the correct angles as the surface you are project on, or using image transform on occasion.
It becomes about a million times easier if you are sitting there with the qtz/projector/surface.
