Custom Plugin path on Leopard

There's been a lot of confusion about where our plugins go on Leopard. With the release of 10.5, Apple made a public API available for custom plugins, referred to as "Official-API Plug-Ins." These can go in one of two places: /Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Plug-Ins/ for system-wide installation, and ~/Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Plug-Ins/ for user-only installation.

Most of our Plug-Ins don't use the official API though. There's another way to develop plugins, using the unofficial API internal to QC. We develop most of our patches to use this API because it offers considerably more power and flexibility (and because it makes Pierre angry :). These do not go where Official-API Plug-Ins go, but instead they go in /Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Patches/ or ~/Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Patches/.

We've been getting a lot of questions regarding this, so I figured I'd post it here so everyone can see it. (perhaps we should look into finding another way around it too? ...)

This is also a plug for signing up for a Beta account (there's a lot going on in Beta-land). It's under your account preferences.
