CISmallGaussianBlur

I have a filter called "CISmallGaussianBlur", that is present in my patch creator, but won't drag onto the editor surface. It seems to be a standard patch... but it might not be. Not sure.

Does anyone else have this, and if so, will it actually drag onto your editor?

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

Is it a clip, perhaps, rather than a patch? Clips appear in the browser, but (I think- can-t check right now) there's a bug whereby they can't be dragged into the workspace. Try double-clicking it, and it should be added to your document.

Hope this helps,

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

It's a private patch, so perhaps you have a setting relating to private patches set wrongly somewhere? It should affect all private patches if so mind.

Beyond that, no idea.. I've used that patch before, but didn't find it very useful, so maybe it's no loss :)

Oh, perhaps also it could be that you're in an iterator or something and that patch isn't allowed there, but I'm pretty sure it's just a basic filter..

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

It doesn't come up as a private patch for me, it's right in there with the rest (not saying that it isn't private though)... but aside from that (whatever that indicates), my private patch settings seem to be correct.

This isn't something that has JUST happened, it's been like this as long as I can remember. It's not iterator related either.

I wonder if it is an intel thing... I wonder if some code in the CI doesn't work on the intel or something, so it won't pop on the editor?

CISmallGaussianBlur won't drag into the Editor for me, either. Intel X7900

Of interest perhaps, it's not listed on the Apple Core Image Filter Reference page. Maybe it doesn't exist anymore, except as a potentially misplaced name on the list in the Patch Creator?

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

Thanks for checking on the Apple Core Image Filter Reference, that was next on my list!

I guess I'm going to have to poke around to see where the code for the actual CI filters is, if it isn't too impossible...

It's just a quirk I guess. I would love to 100% pin down "what the deal" is... if it works only on nVidia, if it's a legitimate boo-boo, if it is "historical" to earlier versions of QC and for some reason remains on the patch creator, whatever...

So far, it's the only thing I've seen that's shown this behavior.

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

Actually:

the Core Image Filters portion (all the "+Private" CI___ stuff, and all the Filter category stuff) are automatically populated by QC -- note that all of them have pretty names except for CISmallGaussianBlur, so I think there's something wrong with that filter, wherever it lives. It's not coded into QC, it's not listed in the Core Image framework (Quartz.framework), so I'm not sure exactly where it comes from.

I'm doing a large-scale search of everything to find where it's referenced, then we can probably pin down why it fails.

(It's always failed as far as I remember too)

Re: CISmallGaussianBlur

That's what I was thinking... I was sure that the code just wasn't there.

Yeah... it's like you are saying. The CISmallGaussianBlur has a name setup like you would expect from a private patch, except that it doesn't show up labelled as private. That is probably a bit of a key/clue.

As you know, I've been doing some overview/observation/book-keeping(?) type of documentation of some of these little... "exceptions to the rules". I think you get where I'm coming from on it... I don't really care about using it, it's just from a documentation "what is going on here" type of perspective.

(On a related note, I wonder where the heck the "photo visualizer" template officially resides in it's most basic form - there is a protocol for it... I guess I need to poke around in photo booth or in system compositions a bit more).

(in reply to psonice)

... and as you note... it IS a private patch. It's weird that it pops up in the regular section instead of as "private".

Where is Colombo?

I would have immediately posted this on list if it wasn't private patch... hmmm, I guess I should anyway? Thoughts?
