Surround Sound Question

steve holmes's picture

Hi I was just wondering if anyone had done any work with surround sound with quartz composer. Has anyone got quicktime with AC3 passthrough working, or have you used the kineme audio player to map audio to different speakers. Just looking for a quick heads up before I start my own testing next week. Once I have my testing complete I will report back here. Cheers Steve

Re: Surround Sound Question

We've had Kineme Audio Player successfully map to different speakers, but I'm not sure about AC3 Passthrough.

Re: Surround Sound Question

i have been able to get the kineme audio file player to play .caf surround file out my spdif digital as well as channel map surround sound. im not sure if the .caf surround 5.1 encapsulation was just emulated or true surround but if you channel map you can have more control from within quartz composer. so just bounce your surround file split into 6 mono tracks then channel map them to the correct speakers with 6 audio file players seems to give you the best control. i use and external sound card but most mac books have a digital spdif light pipe / combo audio card so you can have true surround when watching dvds on ac3 format or from quicktime pro.

Re: Surround Sound Question

sweet test, thanks dust. .caf (more details here: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MusicAudio/Reference/CAFSpec/CA...) can hold arbitrary numbers of channels with arbitrary mappings, so it's real 5.1, not emulated.

Re: Surround Sound Question

Where would I be able to find this patch. I am currently working on a 360 film project that allows the user to pan around the space while watching the film on QC. I am trying to be able to pan the audio as well as they pan the X space of the film. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
