Midi from Logic Express --> Quartz composer...Hi, not directly a quartz problem, but a problem still.. I'm trying to figure out how to get Midi informaiton from Logic Express into Quartz, without patching out via midi and then back in again via a physical interface.. When using the shift lock keyboard i can send midi-notes to quartz it works perfectly, but not when playing back sequences.. Any clues on how to glue this together.. Seems i need some sort of Software midi port.

try ipMidi...http://nerds.de/en/ipmidi_osx.html
Useful indeed, echolab, although it does time limot unless registred. Generous time limit though - 1 hour -none too shabby IMHO.
i think you would want to make sure you are using an external midi track and not a software instrument track. the same way you would trigger external midi hardware or kind of like how you would rewire logic to ableton or something. i find main stage that comes with logic to be much more midi friendly not sure if it is included in the express version. plus you build concerts with patches sort of like in QC. it is made for live performance seeing there is no time line for recording but i find that integrates well with kineme midi out from qc becaue it will recognize all midi devices. i think all you would need to do is just copy your midi track to an external midi track and it will play out of logic the midi info. rewire is a bit tricky in logic. try that let me know. make sure to set your channels and what not correctly in QC and logic.
No, unforuantly not.. Maybe time for an upgrade!
I've just created that external track and created an IAC device in the AudioMidi settings and joined them together.. It sorta works, however my CPU goes to 100%, and only perhaps 10% of the notes get through, and logic eventually crashes. ( not performance happy! ).
I'll go and google this issue, i'm sure its been seen before, and i'll also try out the other 'glue' suggested above. I'm pretty sure that my problem now revolves around this issue..
All this to get some christmas lights going! , All be it some crazy crhistmas lights.
Thanks for the ideas though!
OK NICE!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!
I've fixed this.. Turns out i had a 'feedback' loop in my MIDI.. I disconnected the SUM out to the sequencer in LOGIC>ENVIRONMENT..
Works superb! I'm really close to getting this whole thing sorted out technically, now to do the fun creative stuff.
you can do some interesting things in the logic environment window as far as node editing is concerned, like making multi timbrel sounds and even believe it or not logic has a arpeggiator you can set in the environment. i like to side chain the vocoder synth to my microphone in and play the midi notes out logic to quartz composer. sometimes i go out quartz composer to midi via osc etc..
blinkenlights has some cool quartz composer light related patches. you don't need to actually plug a midi in and out cable on your midi card if you are wanting to internally route midi or else you get problems like double notes or feedback etc..
i guess you better get started now. christmas will be here sooner or later.
yes logic does heaps more than i know how to do, but for now its doing enough.. I just needed a time time, to set some 'markers' and use that to feed into quartz.
THanks for the links to blinkenlights, i'll go have a look soon..
Yes, heaps to do.. I've just posted this little picture of wat i'm up to. There will be 1200 of these around the house!
go for it man 1200 at a time make your neighbors jealous. are you using a score you made or a midi file christmas song ?
I'll use some pre-existing music tracks..
