spooky send/receive workaround?

re: http://kineme.net/BugReports/SpookyPatchv0.2causescrashEditoraftersettin...

thought i'd seek advice with hopes of a workaround or something:

i'm trying to set up a separate composition as a 'controller' for the composition going out to a projector, so i can use the keyboard patch, mouse, etc. on my laptop screen without interfering with the projector image.

the spooky patches of course would be perfect, except for the persistent crashes. maybe i'm not using them properly-- i'm trying to create multiple sends / receives, one for each param.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: spooky send/receive workaround?

you're using them "properly" (in quotes, because the problem Spooky intended to fix was getting values out of red macros that otherwise won't allow published outputs), this is a known bug in spooky patch.

there aren't any known workarounds while using this patch, but OSC or MIDI might allow similar functionality.

okay, thanks.

Re: spooky send/receive workaround?

i would concat all the parameters within one big structure, and use just one spooky. Strangely, i never encountered the bug you're mentionning, although i tend to abuse of the spooky.

thanks, good to hear. strange, franz, wish i knew why it works for you and not me-- i'd love to abuse / overuse this patch! in the meantime i'm already headed toward making one structure and using one spooky patch, but i was worried about its stability even with just one. i won't worry, i guess. :)

and toneburst, your JS patches have been really helpful. the control structure demo was really helpful yesterday. and, for ex., those ASCII effects-- so nice! so much good work you have shared-- i'm grateful.

Would be interested to see what you've done with the ASCII FX. I've not got around to doing a demo of any of those, but it's something I should revisit someday, I think.

haven't applied them to any project yet-- just looking and learning the JS concepts. i'm up against a deadline so i can't really play right now, but these are the kinds of tools i will definitely be looking at in the near future.
