I thought the OBJ loader preserved texture coords? (unlike the OFF loader, which didn't)
If you'd like, I can make you a kineme3d alpha tester (kineme3d doesn't support vrml, but a bunch of other formats, and preserves normals as well as textures, but not per-vertex colors) -- maybe that would be a start?
