Minimal Clip for a Minimal Track

Thanks to the continuous image comp from franz I got some ideas together for a track... (here I'm using exactly the same comp but feeding it some video and played around with the image rotation)

Nice!

Smoothly rendered. Nice conceptualization.

One thing that I thought after seeing it, is that a cool further progression on the idea would be to pull in close on the image. Something where you could only see a bar or two of what just played, and a bar or so ahead, and then maybe "pan" up and down in y to whichever track is the track you wish to draw attention to at the moment. I think I would probably try to approach that with image texturing properties (?), or a crop and transform maybe (?). Anything that would let me scroll the texture in X, and move up and down in Y. This would be an excellent usecase for Timelines. The quicker you "scan" around the tracks, you could trigger some motion blur CI (or v002) for a fun effect.

This may sound corny, but waveform stuff like that might look really cool with sobel and bloom.

Yeah you're right about the close-up panning etc; I did actually try something along those lines but the z also had to change in relation to the x&y otherwise it would pan 'through' the image (as the side images were at an incline).

Thanks for the ideas though; something for another clip.

What's 'sobel and bloom'?

Well, I mean , instead of rendering to an object, you would render the big texture to one billboard, and use something like an image transform, patch time, and math, to make the correct area of texture scroll by on the billboard at the appropriate time. I was sort of throwing "out" the idea of using an actual Cube.

Then, if I wanted to come to a "corner" of a cube, maybe I would use something like a cube rotate transition (I know there's one in the patch list somewhere). Looking at that, there is probably an easy way to make it look like you're crossing the "inside corner" of a cube via a transition. Never tried it though.

By sobel and bloom, I mean that there is a private patch called CISobel, which I think is the same as another public patch - "edges" or "edgework" or one of those. Out of habit, I've always used CISobel, because I recognized first recognized the "sobel" name from working in other environments. This makes an image dark, but makes the edges of an image "pop" and look bright. Then, adding a bloom effect, with a properly cropped output, will add a kind of neon-ish light aura to the sobel/line look. So, all in all, it gives an effect of edges that are glowing. That looks really "hot" with waveform type stuff sometimes, so it came to mind when I saw this.

The CISolbel patch looks really good - will examine that one for another day.

I liked the banality though of having an 'almost' Ableton-like tutorial look; where the App Interface is recognisable but utilising unusual angles. At the end I stretch the image by a massive amount for the blurred look (controlled by an LFO to add some movement).

Actually, I reckon I'll switch at some point to doing "Fav products of the month" videos; 'cos they're getting 100,000+ views!!!!! ;-))

Isn't that sad? It's a weird culture. I still have serious qualms about the ability to use the internet as a tool for subversive social engineering.
