Tik Tok - A/V Remix

This is something where I wanted to remix a song as well as the video, for fun. I used Logic for the remix, and QC for the video.

I stripped the vocal from the original track, did a little tweaking on it, and added in different instrumentation. Then I took the video and did an assortment of glitches, v002, and datamoshing.

I have a box I made with a friend that can manipulate a stereo signal. One thing that you can do is derive the "center" signal- stuff that isn't hard panned. Then I ran it through some aggressive eq. With the end result I could still very faintly hear the kick and a little bit of the original backing, but so low that if anything else is playing, it's pretty much impossible to hear. This song was mixed in a way that made it easier to carve it out than usual, and I had thought that when I originally heard the track on the radio.

I also processed the vocal with an ibanez tubescreamer, a q-tron, digitech whammy pedal, and an alesis ineko at times.

As far as the orig song... after hearing it a few times it started striking me like a modern day Frank Zappa's Valley Girl. I might be wrong, but I think the whole thing is sort of tongue in cheek, and I have a like for humor in music. The talk rap thing kind of reminds me of 80's rap stuff.

I ended up slightly tweaking/changing it, and reuploading. A couple things bothered me... original glitching was pretty aggressive, and there was a part where the sync wasn't making me happy. You probably saw it pretty much how it was (I only had it uploaded w/extreme glitch for a very short time), but I just recently nudged the way the audio and video was synching in a part. I realized I had been a little cavalier.

edit: Hmm, for some reason Vimeo is saying there is a problem with my compression settings.... so it isn't available at the moment.

Here's the Youtube link, with it's really great compression...

and to update this for the umpteenth time... cybero informed me that the Youtube is US only. This is the vimeo:

Many of you are on vimeo and would have already seen this, but I figured I'd post another remix/visualization that I did a couple of days ago:

Nice stuff there! Anyone know if a 100% Quartz Composer comp featured as a commercial music video; say on MTV?

Thanks...on the second thing, I don't know, but it would be interesting to hear if so.
