Increasing vram usage when decreasing capture resolution? (FV video input/QTKit Capture plugin/stock video input)

Hi All,

I'm having a strange issue that I can't wrap my head around. At the moment I'm developing a installation using the logitech c910 usb webcam.

In combination with the FV video input patch (http://kineme.net/Discussion/ForumDiscussion/HardwareSettingsWebcamsandO...) or the QTKit Capture plugin (https://github.com/fieldOfView/QTKitCapture) I can adjust it's resolution and increase frame rates.

Now if I'm capturing at max resolution (2592x1944) the vram usage is around 260-300Mb with either video input patches. When I adjust it to a lower res with either the FV or QTKit capture plugin like 1080i or 720i vram increases to 460Mb. Together with the other stuff I'm rendering my vram floods and eventually crashes my system resulting in a full stop and some nice glitchy flickering on my screen.

Is this 'normal' behaviour, or can I work around it somehow? Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Increasing vram usage when decreasing [solved]

too soon, issue solved!

seems the c910 can't work well with 1080i. Sticking to 2592x1944, 1600x1200, 720i or 640x480 resolved the issue of high vram usage.
