QC, Mavericks and GTX Titan

I've just tried to open my quite old composition on Mac Pro 5,1, with GTX Titan graphics and in QCver.4.6, 10.9.4 system. This composition was originally made and running well on my old dualcore Macbook Pro model 2009 with 10.6.8 system. Because composition is quite easy (only with LFOs and image loaders) i was expecting its smooth performance but the framerate was too low (about 10FPS) on this such a powerful machine. Do i need turn on something special in hidden preferences (alt click on quartz preferences) to improve this horrible performance of rendering? "Activity monitor" says about minimum (almost nothing) consumption of CPU and memory. Why Quartz Composer is not able to use enough CPU and GPU power for smooth rendering now if it was possible before? Any help pls? Thx in advance!

As far as I can remember there were some changes in caching for iterators since then that may be related to your problem. Could you post the composition?

Re: QC, Mavericks and GTX Titan

The composition size is quite big for attachment, there are many png files inside the composition. so here is the download link:

Render performance of this composition is much more lower on 10.9.5, MacPro with GTX Titan than on really old dualcore MacBook Pro with 10.6.8. my question is can i improve overall performance of CPU and GPU in QC 4.6 and 10.9.5 system?

Re: QC, Mavericks and GTX Titan

I localized the root of the performance problem in the "LAVA" macro. There is a "Accumulator" that heavily cost performance. However I don't know the reason why. I tried to get rid of the accumulator by replacing it with a "Sample & Hold" patch since you just want to keep the resulting image for the next render cycle. And moved everything out of the master "DEN" macro. Also I removed the core image filters. In addition the Lava blob image is just rendered once at the start of the composition. Now it runs on 30 FPS on my 2009 iMac machine.

Re: QC, Mavericks and GTX Titan

Thank you very much for reply and sorry for delay in my response. in fact I'm curious if QC is able to use real potential of some upgraded and powerful Mac Pro machine (12 core, nVidia graphics), or there is an restriction in QC itself because it's a old piece of software unfortunately updated long time ago. This composition what i sent before was a test with result that QC on 10.6.8 and dualcore MacBook is much more powerful than QC on 10.9.5 on 12 core Mac Pro with GTX Titan. Or do somebody have different example and different result in this issue? Thanks in advance..
