Is what I'm trying to do in QC even possible?

I've been fighting with QC for the last 2 weeks trying to make something happen that I thought would be easy.

I was wrong.

I have been told by several people (random internet VJs that I don't know) that what I'm trying to do is possible and easy.

However, I have yet to actually see that anyone has implemented what I'm needing to do.

Specifically, I am triggering video clips from within Ableton and wanting them to play in Quartz Composer.

I am using the MIDI feedback feature in Ableton. What that means from Quartz Composers perspective is that I am receiving midi notes, and when those notes have a velocity of 127, the specific clip associated with that MIDI note will play until the next time a MIDI note with velocity of 127 comes along.

Lastly, I need a simple cross fade transition between clips.

I've gone down various paths that people have suggested but so far I haven't been able to achieve all the requirements. I'm getting concerned that QC may simply not be built to handle this task and that is why everyone uses VJ software instead.

In short here are my requirements:

1) Trigger a video when a specific MIDI note with velocity of 127 is played. 2) Play that video (loop) until a different MIDI note with velocity 127 is played at which time the different video will play. 3) Have a simple crossfade between videos as they transition.

I have many clips that will be triggered this way. The problems I run into are: If using Directory Scanner, I don't see how to have a fade between videos. If I use Multiplexer, I don't see how to set index to change based both on the MIDI note number AND velocity.

Please, I just need to know-can this be handled within QC by itself?

Thanks!

Re: Is what I'm trying to do in QC even possible?

Well, as another random internet VJ you don't know, I can tell you that this is possible in QC. It may not be easy, and you may not find a tutorial that will tell you exactly how to do it, but it definitely is possible. Feel free to ask specific questions, or is that really all you needed to know?

Well that is the most important question. :-D

Now I'll try not to be too much of a bother by asking lots of questions on the forum as I try and get this to work. :-D
