Loading a comp with the viewer turned off?

photonal's picture

I was fiddling around with the great _1024_ParticleWarfare plugin by franz but quickly got into problems with the comp going into melt-down and having to do a force-quit of QC.

I was feeding the motion detect part a 'Render in Image' but if the dimensions are off - it can send the comp into oblivion.

The attached comp is what I'm trying to open.

Is there a way to open a comp (which has been saved with the viewer open) with the viewer closed?

Or is there a way (like the old command-. ) to stop an responsive comp from rendering (when the 'stop' button won't react).

This isn't possible. Quite literally, the viewer's open/closed state is not stored in the composition at all.

You probably want to hit up Preferences (cmd-, in QC) -- specifically, under the General Tab. change the "show editor and viewer" option to "show only editor". If you can't launch QC (i.e. it's reloading this document at launch), there's a terminal command to set the preference without launching QC. I don't know it off the top of my head, but it's easy enough to find if you need it.

Thanks for the tip!

mmm, my plugin is obviously crashing your comp. I suspect that you are feeding it with a huge un-resized image from your RII patch. Keep in mind that a 1280by1024 image will generate ... 1,310,720 particles per frame, way TOO much.

EDIT: managed to open your comp :

-1 : there's no clear patch in your render in image, so everything is flickering, hence the motion detection detecting ... every pixel. Added a clear and got rid of the motion detect, since it was useless and sucking your FPS.

-2 : you set the Resize patch to 5 by 5, but only if image is smaller... which is not the case, so you're feeding the particle plugin a 1280by720 image every frame. That's 921600 particle per frame. Not good. Eventually you could add a timer, that switches between your image and a black frame, every, say, 1/10th of seconds. Performance is in the timing....

Attached is your comp, working again.

Thanks for taking the time to fix this - actually the fixed version still crashes on my system but if I reorder the layers (as mentioned in the _1024_ParticleWarfare thread); Specifically made the Billboard layer 2, then it works fine.

What goes round comes round and this time I'm getting exactly the same result as you photonal.

The version you've posted does work, whilst the sweep ok from franz [thanks for the plugin BTW] does crash after giving me a white rectangle.

I had thought that you were perhaps alone in this. Layer ordering huh, :-) ?
