Flamingin "Re: i question the legitimacy of this person." i can't answer or give my opinion because the thread is locked. I don't like locked threads. I don't like being politically correct. I don't like flaming, but sometimes it is needed. We're not computers, we're humans. Correctness and smooth behavior will kill us all. |

I don't like locked threads either.
This is a difficult situation. Locking threads, blocking users, deleting content, censoring, and rewriting history are all actions I want to try to categorically avoid.
I support rational dissent. I believe the thread you mentioned is far from that, and I believe it's gone on long enough. I've therefore locked that thread, in hope that this minor deterrent will allow some time for tempers to subside.
Can we all get back to discussing, uh, say, "Interactive Media" and/or "Quartz Composer Stuff" ?
Well said, smokris.
I can say that I was privy to a lot of deliberation and discussion behind the scenes, and action taken was not taken lightly. I in no way expect it to be "the norm".
And, speaking of flaming, here's a port of a fire effect I did about 12 years ago (smokris, you might remember this ;)
heh. Back when our concern was primarily about stringing noodles, at least two things were true: 1. I could understand about 60% of the discussion and 2. Nobody could conscientiously claim 'private property' on most of the published efforts.
Now however, a lot of what gets discussed is coding. What's true now? 1. Lost me completely. 2. Lost me completely and 3. Lost me completely. Lastly, there is discord.
(re: the time "I" got in a snit: I wanted my name OFF somebody else's modification of my noodle job. Just sayin')
It's always upsetting to see arguments but sometimes they are needed.
So often on VJForums potential employers actually get the harsh end of the bargain. I hope that does not happen here, unless they do play people off against one another.
Money as ever the route of all evil!
Great community that there is here, it is still a business so I commend you on the stewarding.
And gotta say I think my fire is better than cwrights :P I don't even remember who made the two examples which I combined to make this...Love.
that's almost certainly possible -- remember, I wrote mine when I was in high school, when luxuries like pixel shaders and hardware accelerated graphics didn't exist on linux back then ;)
(I was looking for a few-minute composition to brush up on that fit with the theme of the discussion -- did yours get airtime for a project or something? Just curious)
I used the original particle comp which I think might have been from quartzcompositions.com (after a quick google [sunburst fire.qtz] I found it was actually from NI) as an overlay during a song in one show: Takeover at the Royal Festival Hall,London. http://www.vimeo.com/3987814 But that was before Optical flow was released (and of course it's just Vade's example compo). It's actually more steam like with different colours.
Take my plugins out of your fire qtz or else!!!111oneoneone
;)
Very nice actually. I like it. Mind if I borrow it (with changes) for something?
I love seeing people do different shit with plugins i helped write. So much fun.
Haha...actually asking if you can use your own work that's taking courtesy too far. I wonder who it was at NI that put the particle system up on quartzcompositions?
Scratching the shoulders of giants :)
Bottom line__If you upload a decent .qtz or some code it is going to get used somewhere. That's why I respect QC users so much. A VJ recently suggested trying to sell compositions like you would a stock footage clip, I was not enamoured by the idea.
That idea of using the random that way is really cool.
Haha ! I love you all, you're good and smart people. Respect.
