AJA Io Express experience

Does anyone have any experience with the AJA Io Express as an HDMI video input device for QC for use on a laptop??? Any thoughts? I had been using a Matrox MXO2 mini until I had to update from 10.7 to 10.8 and now am extremely disappointed with the severe lack video capture support in their Mountain Lion drivers and am looking for other options.

I'd be interested in this too as the blackmagic devices don't work under 10.8 either - http://kineme.net/forum/DevelopingCompositions/VideoInputdoesntseeBlackm...

I'd also be keen to know the latency of the AJA as well if someone has used it - http://kineme.net/forum/DevelopingCompositions/BlackmagicIntensityVsMatr...

Also the matrox seems to work under 10.8 in 32it mode - http://kineme.net/forum/DevelopingCompositions/BlackmagicIntensityVsMatr...

If your not sure how to make QC run in 32 bit mode right click on it (depending on if you upgraded from an old install or did a fresh install it might be in /Developer/Applications - else use spotlight to find it), select "get info" and the click the box "open in 32 bit mode"

Re: AJA Io Express experience

I'm actually the one who mentioned the the 32-bit mode compatibility of the Matrox MXO2 mini in the post you linked to. :) The main problem is some of the other plugins I use in Quartz Composer for the same project are 64-bit and won't load in 32-bit mode at all.

Re: AJA Io Express experience

I actually did make the final decision yesterday afternoon to switch products to the AJA IO Express (mobile version) after getting no response from Matrox support to any of my forum posts and getting the following response from an AJA support technician within a couple hours of requesting information on OSX 10.8 compatibility. The response was what I wanted to hear but it was the promptness of the response that sold me. :)

"Hello Christopher,

The Io Express should function as specified whether on Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mt Lion.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Best regards, Keith"

The other software the AJA unit works with SHOULD mean it's compatible with Quartz Composer as well, so I think it's a fairly safe purchase but I'll post my results once I have the Io Express in hand.
