Quartz Builder 1.5 Release

Thanks for this.

I have no idea where QB gets the dates it assign for date created and date modified but at least they are within a week of build timestamp and/or the originating .qtz file timestamp which is better than previous versions. Last modified seems to reflect using the app itself which is great.

Be great if a future version of QB kept the Advanced settings unaltered when I reload the source comp or load a new source composition. I get really tired of typing in the Window Dimensions and thinking through the settings I want checked every time I rebuild.

Re: Quartz Builder 1.5 Release

I'd like to state that I really dislike the change to keep the icns file the same after it's been loaded once, and having other changes propagate across entirely different builds of different source compositions would be even more obnoxious.

If I make a project in Xcode, I don't expect it to use the last icns file, or for IB settings to magic themselves across to a new project. It would be majorly obnoxious to have made a build targeting a different monitor or something and have to remember to uncheck it a month or more later.

Why not use Edit > Edit Information with the Quartz Builder template in QC?

Re: Quartz Builder 1.5 Release

Where I'm coming from is that I might work on an Application and rebuild it 6-12 times in the space of a few hours, occasionally I might change the source composition but mostly it's using the same file. When I shift to a new project, that happens about once to every 6-12 saves I might do while working on it. When I was building a pair of apps concurrently that was more like the situation you're describing where I had to rename each one and change the .icns file but settings were same. So I'm generally happy to alter all the settings at the time I change project (last example not withstanding), although typically for me the .icns file and window settings will be the same with maybe a change to 'lock AR' setting.

If QB were to associate settings with projects or source compositions (al la Xcode), that would be even better than preserving advanced settings (in addition to currently preserved .icsn file and UID string) although this might be a little extra effort for Kineme than preserving "Advanced Settings"

Anyhow I thought you's graduated out of QBland into Xcode Apps, George, do you still have occasional uses for QB?

Why do you call it QBland? If I graduated from anything recently, I didn't receive the degree in the mail.

Almost all of the special settings are able to be populated into the QB app by setting them in your composition, except for the monitor selection, I believe. There are probably settings that are only able to be set via the composition, and not the QB app, so it's not a horrible idea to use that approach.

Only just spotted this, jersmi. I will have a go, not to sure what you mean though?

QBland == Quartz Builder Land

Re: Quartz Builder 1.5 Release

Okay I tried this and the only one I can hit is copyright. I created identifier and used the existing name attribute but no joy. Would be neat if we could set these for all the QB settings including advanced settings and QB read them in and pre-populaed the fields with those values.

edit- Would be great to have more instances of the Quartz Builder document window so more than one composition can be open at once. That way you don't have to keep swapping around when building a pair of Apps which I do sometimes — one app being the GUI the other being the clean output display.

(Once the bug that sometimes produces funny builds after the source composition is reload is ironed out of course. That bug is making me restart QB every time I build so I lose saved settings anyhow making this whole discussion moot)
