Think Gear MindWave Mobile QC plugin?

Slugn's picture

Hello,

I recently got my hands on a Thinkgear Mindwave Mobile EEG reader. I am wondering if anyone has played around with this device in QC. I have been trying to write my own QC plugin, however my xcode skills are close to none :) any advice as to if I should try to use the xcode qc plugin template, or should i use the kineme xcode template (of which I have looked at both and still don't have a clue)? I have also spent the last few days going over their developer tools and API...anyway, I am at a loss. My only workaround would be to send the data to a bluetooth equipped Arduino and read the serial data into QC... thanks!!

I've got the emotive EEG working under qc before - I just wrote a small program outside of qc that sent the packets over osc - I was worried about the bandwidth/overhead but things worked a treat, maybe you could try something similar if your more familiar with another development environment?

Excellent stuff, must get me one of these. Bunny ears look strange appealing too!

A quick look at the developer section they mention this

Quote:
ThinkGear Communications Protocol

Specification Document

harder (You have to open and read from the serial I/O port, and then parse the incoming data stream) Platforms: Any platform that can open and read from a serial I/O (or UART) port Languages: Any language that can open and read from a serial I/O port

Maybe try all the serial I/O plugins around here?

There is an xcode project out there called BrainOSC which works with the mindwave, however I have not been able to get it to work with the Mindwave Mobile... and no, I am a visual artist with very limited programing skills...arduino? sure!... the xcode environment is a little more tricky to understand, and really have only used it previously to make fun, interactive QC apps (I then switched to Quartz Builder, easier, faster :)

Re: Think Gear MindWave Mobile QC plugin?

It seems the example on this page (http://sintixerr.wordpress.com/...) is for the original MindSet and not the MindWave Mobile (download links are broken too, I sent the author an email, perhaps he will respond...)

I also recieved a response via email confirming that BrainOSC is indeed only for the non bluetooth version of the MindWave.

I have managed to get a separate github xcode project "ThinkGearCocoa" (https://github.com/beOn/ThinkGearCocoa) compiled, but it doesn't seem to want to connect. and I am still at a loss as to which template I should use as a starting point for building a QC plugin, which is easier to implement...skankySDK templates from Kineme, or the template examples that come with xcode?

anyway my searches continue...really what i need is an example of someone elses xcode project(that they don't mind sharing) in which they built a provider QC plugin :) then I can dig in to it and figure out by trail and error...any help advice would be greatly appreciated!!! I am looking at the leap motion QC git repository, perhaps there will be some insight as how I need to build the plugin :)

my webblog is decosson.org I love QC and can't wait to get my brain hooked up!! also I should mention that really....this is way over my head...but I am not going to give up on this, I really want to see an open source QC plugin developed for the Mindwave Mobile, and just think perhaps if your in the windsor/detroit area you would be able to come to one of my exhibitions in which you too can become one with your mind through visual feedback!!! yea! haha
