How about a right-click dropdown menu of patches, so you can right-click anywhere in the Editor window to see a dropdown list of available patches. Something like vvvv.
That's what I was thinking. Grouped by main category, then sub-categorised several times if necessary. Maybe with different sorting options, and a search, too...?
That's a loooong list isn't it. I use Cmd–Return habitually and have to type part of the patch name.
A straight list would be too long to be navigable (on my system it would be about 10-15 times the height of my screen).
Perhaps grouped into submenus by category?

Maybe right-clicking and typing would dynamically filter the list of patches...

And in prefs you could set a custom subset or two based on user needs by creating a list from total list. Add/Remove type of thing.
