QuartzCrystal trial rendering with checkerboard and flashing. Is this apart of the trial?

REZart's picture

Just a quick question. In the trial version of QuartzCrystal, the movie file renders with a checkerboard watermark and appears to be flashing. Is this just to signify it is the trial, or is it actually rendering incorrectly. I am interested in buying the full version, but I need to know if this problem will still be there when I purchase the software. The reason why I ask is because I run the unsupported 10.9.4 Everything appears to run fine but the actual rendered movie.

Thanks

Hi, @REZart. Yes, the checkerboard watermark is intentionally added as part of the free trial version.

I've successfully used QuartzCrystal 2 on Mac OS 10.9; I haven't seen the flashing issue you mentioned. If you make a simple composition (e.g., just a Sphere patch), does it flash? If not, could you share a simple composition that flashes? (Either attach it here, or email info@kineme.net.)

Thanks for the reply.

Here is the simple composition I used.

I suppose the flashing when I render it to a movie must have something to do with the comp and not QuartzCrystal.

You'll need this image in your Downloads folder: http://snapsort.com/learn/movie-capability/images/720p-example.jpg

Also, ignore the Replicate in Space patch. It was for another thing I was going to make, unless that has to do with the flashing.

Here is what my video looks like. It had to convert for some odd reason. Please tell me if you notice anything I've done incorrectly.

I can't see anything in your composition that may cause this flickering.

Re: QuartzCrystal trial rendering with checkerboard and ...

Thanks for providing an example. It looks like this was due to a change in Mac OS X's Core Image API. I found a quick workaround, so I published a new version: QuartzCrystal 2.1.

It had to convert for some odd reason.

QuartzCrystal defaults to using the QuickTime Animation codec, which requires conversion to be played with QuickTime Player X. You can either choose a different codec in QuartzCrystal, or play it with QuickTime Player 7 (which can play it without first converting).

Thank you for the support. I tried the Demo version and I got no flashing images. I am now a happy owner of QuartzCrystal :)
