Midi thieves

I understand where you're coming from there, but I can't help finding the thought of people stealing your midi funny :D

The thought of someone hijacking midi is a bit comical, to be honest; I'd just rather be totally upfront with negative side-effects. CYA and all that stuff ;)

On the serious side, some of the setups smokris works with make extensive use of midi (for much more than just musical control, sometimes). Since anything sent down the line can be intercepted, there could be some really nasty problems in really small corner cases if you're not careful (i.e. someone decides to do authentication over midi or something? stupid idea, I know. never underestimate humans...). -- also, since the midi output patch is unlocked, someone could spam your midi setup remotely, which could range from annoying to disastrous depending on how things are tied together.

The result of too much LSD...

I thought the kids TV programs were bad for being made while high when I was young.. it looks like the situation has gotten worse! ;)

This one time

This one time I worked on a show in which MIDI was bridged to DMX, and then DMX was used to detonate explosives..

C4 ?

what kind of explosives ? DMX ignition .... mmmm ... kewl is that project documented somewhere ?

There doesn't seem to be any

There doesn't seem to be any online documentation of the show... My highschool performed Gore Vidal's "Visit to a Small Planet" in spring 2000. The technical director used a DMX-triggered flashpot demolition of a vase as part of a demonstration of the protagonist's superhuman abilities. I'm guessing it probably wasn't C-4.

Midi DMX

What did they use to bridge midi and DMX?

I'm still looking for a way to control DMX through QC inside VDMX But I have no idea how DMX works really

QC bridge or ....

MaxMsp ?? really, i don't think QC would ever be a kewl app to DMX stuff - due to its overall design + iterations issue - Msp is really nice for DMX -although not as good as vvvv and its spread concept, awesome for multiple DMX units.- Since Midi data can be shared between different applications, it is very easy. Maybe with the new arduino-DMX shield you could do it from within QC, but it is not released yet (but due soon, as told by Massimo Banzi).
