Who all is planning on visiting WWDC this year? I'd be fantastic to chat/collaborate with some QCers :)

Re: WWDC2010

looks like a fun time. didn't see much as talks about QC although i'm sure quartz composer will be integrated into the core animation stuff. how early do you have to get tickets for wwdc. its all sold out ?

I'll be there. Would love to meet up with any QC minded people.

Of course, vade, you're on my hitlist :)

sounds great -- thursday night's no good, but any other I should be free.

Re: WWDC2010

sadly, it sold out in like 8 days this year :(

Re: WWDC2010

Cool! I've spent the past week with tons of advanced QC users (who make my demos look like a joke), so chatting it up with some more would be great (there are absolutely tons of ideas that I have bouncing around now) -- let me know when works for you.

Perhaps we could schedule an unofficial get together, so we're all discussing stuff at the same time?

Re: WWDC2010

Yep, it sold out before I realized tickets were on sale!

Bummer.

Re: WWDC2010

What is with the "make my demos looks like a joke?" Where ARE these superhuman QC'ers...? MIA on the net :-)

Re: WWDC2010

I'm finding an interesting dynamic: There are people who use QC like me (wanting to push 3d, wanting to tax the GPU efficient, etc.), and there's also a huge group that wants QC to be like an interactive photoshop (i.e. 2D only). Yesterday I saw some stuff that was done without any code (just QC math patches an iterators, no JS nor CL) that looked really cool. This, of course, was done by the "photoshop" camp.

I'll PM you more details -- it could be an interesting discussion.

Re: WWDC2010

Interesting; it makes sense that there would be that dichotomy. I think that it should be both, and more - a high level abstraction of programming in general.

Why not interactive 3D realtime photoshop/afteraffects with integrated gaming oriented objects, a well developed offline rendering system, and sequencer track style animation engine for triggering animation sequence. Ah, there are so many intriguing extra "layers" of control and modes that could be added to QC to target different needs.

I would like to see it become increasingly developed kind of microcosm of the world of programming in general, using it's traditional node based approach, but also having a sequencing mode that would amount to a combo of interaction/value historian, that has a viewable/editable timeline mode, and ability to convert other kind of traditional files (like 3D motion sequences for character anim), into the "QC Interaction Timeline" format. You could let a sequence play with an imported mocap file or something, grab an arm, move it differently, and then generate a different alternative file. That kind of thing. Using warp tools/CI on textures, to be able to export/generate new models.

We've talked about a decent amount of this before... look forward to your PM.

Re: WWDC2010

Would people be up for drinks and/or dinner on Wednesday? I suggest we meet at the thirsty bear (a small micro brewery a block away from moscone) around 6:30 for a few drinks and take it from there

Any thoughts?

Re: WWDC2010

actually, I think there's a developer thing wednesday night (if this is the same thing, apologies for getting them confused) -- another night might be easier for me at least.

(sorry to keep finding all these restrictions :( )

Re: WWDC2010

I'm certainly interested in a meet up to meet other QC users. I suspect there is a huge contingent of serious users who do not participate actively in Kineme or even the mailing lists. Very curious to see what folks are up to.

Re: WWDC2010

tomorrow night? things seem to finish at 5:30 so we could go for a drink then and people could either grab dinner or check out the design awards at 7:30

Re: WWDC2010

Lets try and organize a lunch meeting on Wednesday or Thursday? I leave Thursday in the evening. Is a lunch on Thursday with QC people, maybe some folks from Apple as well possible?

Say, around 1ish?

Re: WWDC2010

did you guys catch steves keynote. i saw it on the news was very funny when he wanted to show how good things look on os 4 but couldn't get an internet connection. he asked someone if they had any suggestions and someone else blurted out verizon.

i don't think steve thought it was funny. if you ask me i think at&t is a good choice. because verizons internet blows at least where i live.

Re: WWDC2010

1pm tomorrow is fine by me although I'm now demoless as my laptop dies yesterday :(

Alcove 1 on the 3rd floor?

Re: WWDC2010

I've experienced this again and again over the last 3 years of my research into audio/visual technologies.

I, myself, have a bit of a left brain / right brain fuzziness where I'm not too hot at maths but enjoy programming, and not the greatest designer but enjoy good design... So I'm very much into QC as it satisfies both requirements... similarly as does Cinema 4D, After Effects and to some extent Web Design - a bit of CSS is a lovely thing.

I'd be interested at talking at length with you if you fancy! How's Apple working out for you? Do drop me a line :) http://robmac.net/hello

Re: WWDC2010

thursday lunch sounds great -- I'm game for that (we could turn it into a QC fan lunch or something, if we can get enough interest :)

Any places you have in mind?

cwright's picture
Re: WWDC2010

ok, since there are no places in mind: Let's meet in the first-floor Moscone center lobby near the registration desk around 12:00. If this time doesn't work, speak now or forever hold your peace.

You guys totally need to stream this meeting of the minds with Qik or something. I'd love to be there, but alas, work is a cruel mistress.

I think there's enough material in the public domain to say we have some idea…

…So please Qik it, podcast it or something just get it out here (+GMT10)

Re: WWDC2010

You didn't miss much -- it was a fairly small, civil get together (4 people in total). A few good ideas, but the turnout was pretty low so there's just not much to go on :/

I suppose as a backup, this forum could work ;) Remember, in "meeting of the minds", "minds" = You.

What kind of food!?

Bug report : Minds=us

Re: WWDC2010

japanese (man, I hate sea food, so I've resorted to Chicken Teriyaki like 4 times this week... what gives?)

Not to be fixed; You can be plural. ;)

Re: WWDC2010

Oh Chris! No sushi/sashimi for you? You might want to try galbi or bulgogi if it's available at that type of place sometime (sliced beef short ribs and a kind of thin cut marinated beef, respectively).

cwright, you have no idea… we're talking multi-plurality... save me from myself!
