Can't load 3ds object using kineme 3d Object loader plugin

Is there somewhere with more details on the requirements for objects to be used with this plugin?

UPDATE: as an experiment I opened the Kineme model example called "bunny.3ds" in Cinema 4d r10. It opens and renders in C4D without issue. If I choose to export the project (without altering it) as 3ds file, the saved file will not open in QC with the 3D object loader. So I guess C4D does something?

The only export options for the 3ds format are: scale and "split continuous points y/n"

update: I tried using .fbx format and that seems to work now.
