Vade Movie Player

Danny_J's picture

I had d/l this sometime last week and works great. Today i open a file that was using the vade movie player patch and the movies aren't being displayed. Now I'm aware that its a beta so does anyone no way it just randomly stopped working. I didn't make any changes to the qtz file. Last time i opened it everything was working 100%. I didn't delete or edit the movie playlist nor did i make any changes to the plugins location. Just simply opened an existing qtz comp that was 100 percent working and now the movie player stop displaying. I even hovered over the image input for the tooltip to pop up. It did, but with no movie being displayed. I tried the normal movie loader patch and it works fine (with the exception that it is still glitchy and doesn't have the right output duration, which forced me to find vades). Any ideas or solutions? I even tried to redownload it and still nothing.

Vade Movie Player Problems

Easily reproduced by way of scrubbing the playhead back and forth and in a few moments I was able to make a working vade movie player item run its audio whilst rendering no video at all. It's seems going back along the playhead once the actual end has been reached is sufficient to cause a crash which also encompassed a failure to then start, stop or reset either :-)

Also crashed out Quartz Composer :-)

Don't scrub back on Vade Movie Player - ever ! [until further notice, I guess]

Re: Vade Movie Player Problems

Haha thanks for that heads up. So i actually figured out the problem (after stepping way from the pro to use the BR where every great man does his thinking lol) Moments before i ran quartz i had plugged in a Sabrent USB 2.0 to DVI adapter. Which honestly was made for XP and Vista but found a beta driver for Intel based Macs. So i could hook up a third monitor for a full screen render of my qtz comps. Well i first opened the viewer in my 2nd display (both my main and 2nd display are hooked up to the DVi ports of the pro). And like i stated earlier no movie going, but oddly enough everything else worked like my gradient background both XML feeds etc etc. When i went to move my viewer to the third display it would go blank and completely crash quartz lol. Weird!! so i just turned off the pro, disconnected the USB adapter and turned the pro back on. Ran quartz and to my surprise everything was working again. Flawless!

Hm, Ive had no issues with scrubbing. Can you send me a patch to reproduce? What codec where you using?

Re: Vade Movie Player Problems

Here's the info on the original item I found gave rise to a bug. The bug only occurs with audio-video files. Plain video works just fine so long as no audio track

DV PAL 16 bit Big Endian Audio Stereo 720 by 576 pixels fps fixed 28.5 fps real 30

were the original codecs, but it was a really huge file size wise 750MB plus for posting so I reduced its file size , used a different set of codecs and - reproducible result nonetheless, once the movie file has run its course, the audio can be made to run again and scrubbing back and forth seems to precipitate the vanishing of the video in the first instance.

The attached archive file has been played through once, had the bug reproduced and then been reset so that it will play upon start up again so you can try to reproduce the bug as I found it.

Movie Information

Generic MPEG4 16 bit Big Endian 624 * 526

I have also managed to reproduce that bug with H.264 & AAC.

I've never been able to reproduce it without audio being involved - ever.

I have not been able to reproduce it by having v002 play a video whilst the movie importer patch plays an audio movie file either.

Re: Vade Movie Player Problems

Thanks, I was able to reproduce with your movie. I think this is a Codec issue. Once I transcoded to either AIC or DVPal from your DIVX encode, it worked. Im not sure if you have a ton of QT Codecs installed, but id remove all but the normal ones (remove perian/Divx/3Vix etc) and see if you can re-create.

Ill do more testing in the mean time.

Re: Vade Movie Player

I tried cropping the Image, but this doesn't seem to work (stretches instead). Could be me, I'm rather new to this.

Re: Vade Movie Player

I have been using the new beta of the v002 movie player and it works great, except the reset input doesn't seem to be working anymore is anyone else having this problem. Cheers Steve

Re: Vade Movie Player

Downloaded, Installed to default location, doesn't show in my Library list for instantiating. Downloaded, compiled , installed to default location, still not showing up in my LIbrary :-)

No worries, could it just be this bit of kit or SL ?

Re: Vade Movie Player

@cybero

download the vade source. click on the xcode project click info then go to build change from 10.5 to 10.6 then change the architecture to native to machine. then go build and copy and this should do the trick. i started my machine up holding the 6 and 4 keys this enabled 64 bit kernels for me so when im using quartz builder i have to make a 32bit plugin that will work with a qb application but the 32 bit doesn't show up in qc so im a bit lost because this was happening when i didn't have 64 bit kernels enabled so maybe QC runs natively on 64 bit by default but im not sure how if i didn't have it enabled ?? anyways thats how i got it to show up.

Re: Vade Movie Player

i think you find vade is working on a new version of Movie player for 10.6, taken from his twitter page "v002 Movie player now outputting frames in 64 bit Quartz Composer / 10.6. Needs lots of optimizing. Damn you QTKit. Damn you.. 9:37 PM Aug 21st from Tweetie"
