Kineme 3D 1.2 beta crashes on default composition in 10.6.1

Gravity Bunny immediately precipitates a crash upon being opened with a double click from Finder using QC 4 on 10.6.1. Report sent to Apple. Kineme Core report also sent through to yourselves at Kineme. Does not crash out in Finder / QuickLook - oddly enough :-). Gravity Plane does not provoke any such problem. No other Kineme example 3D comp provokes any problem.

It won't crash in finder/QL because the patches in play are unsafe, so they're disabled.

sending kineme crash reports to Apple doesn't help them any, unfortunately :(

(the public 1.2 beta and the current (on my machine) 1.2 beta are wildly different, so I think this problem's already resolved?)

Cybero, see what happens for you if you turn the smooth on the loader off, and leave it "on" on the render patch. Secondly, if that doesn't work, does an fbx work with the same composition (in place of the bunny 3ds file?).

(This problem doesn't replicate for me, but I'm not in SL right now either, fwiw).

Actually sent the System Crash report to Apple and the Core report to Kineme , cwright :-); wouldn't be at all surprised that the problem was already resolved.

Using an alternate file format worked AOK, GT, though that had to be tailored into place in Leo as running the file was impossible in SL . With the use of some other supported 3D file format , the object loaded AOK.

.dae only seems available now in SL as Mesh inputs, no possible way of even pointing to a .dae file path and making that work - but then who needs to, with such good support for .dae files in SL, I guess.

Yep, I know (about both reports) -- however, it's certainly our bug, and Apple doesn't have access to our source code, so they can't do anything about it :/

we've removed automatic .dae support from kineme3d because it's extraordinarily flaky in k3d, and very well supported in SL. you can manually enter a path, and it'll try, but it generally fails.

You can change your editor settings to only open the editor (not the viewer) to work around compositions crashing on startup (assuming the crash is viewer related, as it usually is -- there are sometimes obscure load-time bug where even loading in the editor will crash though -- this isn't such a case).

I second GT's sentiments on trying to disable smoothing/simplification, and seeing if that changes things (however, those two features have been largely rewritten in the current 1.2 build, so any notes on that aren't tremendously helpful now...)

Thanks for the heads up.

Changing the file format worked wonders. I actually tried a bunny.obj and a bunny.fbx, not much change between the two of them.

To be honest, I don't find there's much fps improvement to be had by enabling or disabling any of the options on the 3D loader Input Parameters - - I get anything between 48 to 60 + fps anyway at all, so no problem there.

I was aiming, in the long run, to do some Kineme3D tool versions of a couple of .dae SL compositions I've been working upon. It'll happen, in due course.
