kineme audio tools and working with multi-channel audio

jesseh's picture

hey, im new here and looking for some help working with the audio tools. More specifically im looking for help regarding multi-channel audio output from QC using the audio tools. I've searched and read a whole bunch of forum posts but i couldn't find an answer to a basic question ... how do i map audio to my different speakers ?

i have an early 2009 iMac running to a 6.1 surround amp using optical. If i play dvd's my amp plays in surround so i know it can work. but when i try to play a file in QC to one of my surround speakers to audio only comes out of left or right and my amp is still in stereo (2 channel) mode.

Is there a tutorial or can someone help me configure QC (or my iMac) to get multi-channel audio through optical ?

Particle Tools - Quartz Crystal Failed Render Syndrome

cybero's picture

I've just stumbled upon a couple of possibly related Audio Tools problems.

One - probably known about, but only apprehended by me since re-introducing myself to Particle Tools, as follows :-

Starting & stopping an Audio Tools offline render construct, see example attached, that feeds into a Particle Scene, will result in the audio failing on the second and subsequent triggering of the audio.

Two - although this construct - see posted to Repository, Particle Dance, works fine as an iTunes visualizer, it won't actually render as such in Quartz Crystal, repeatedly resulting in a Failed Render message.

Particle Dance Transform

This is a work in progress, a Particle Tools composition that uses OpenCL to create a transforming structure being fed into a Kineme GL Structure Renderer patch containing two GL Tools Structure patches.

The video above is set to the track that helped to create the audio data feed, Minkou e so non moin by Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou.

Kineme Audio Input - Waveform output

G'Day everyone

I've just started on audio analysis in quartz composer.

Using the Kineme Audio Input patch from the Audio Tools plugin, i've noticed that the waveform output has a lot of data (waveformlets?), 512 it seems.

My questions is; what is the best way to simplify this down to just 3 values, high mid, low. Suppose I could also break them into 9 or 27 values. But 512, just seems a little overkill for what I need.

Is there a best way to do this? Any gotcha's I need to worry about? Would a few Javascript patchs do?

Is the accuracy of each of the frequencies equal, I remember reading a while back that the lower and higher values are not really accurate or usable. Although that could of been about another patch.

Also, what is the Frequency Mode? I change it but nothing seems to happen. I'm pretty new to audio, so i'm probably asking really basic questions but we all have to start somewhere :)

Thanks for the patch though, I'm already making use of the volume peaks.

Cheers
