The name says it all I hope... Finally got around to remaking a composition I first created with Edo. Feel free to use it in VJ sets or live work but not for commercial or recorded projects. Please let me know if you find it useful.

Re: 3D EQ (Composition by Scratchpole)

Hi there, I like the look of this one. However I don't get any animation on sound when I open the patch. The elements are moving around but there is no reation when I turn on the sound.

When I mouse over the audio input patch I can see it does receive a signal so where is it going wrong you think? What plugins do I need?

I am on Snow Leopard QC 4.0

Nice composition, Scratchpole.

Udart - if you try routing either Soundlflower or else make this into an iTunes visualizer and connect up the audio spectrum output whilst running iTunes visualizer, you'll get a lot of response. You could also set the two audio input patches originally employed to use the microphone rather than the built in input, which is what they are currently set to.

You will find that you'll get a whole different level of response simply by raising or lowering the increasing and decreasing scales, especially upon the audio input patch inside the 3d transformation.

Edit

As I found with this type of composition, one needs to get the Image size and bounds sorted or else it will splurge in iTunes - although QC doesn't give a clue to that - see attached variant on Scratchpole's excellent original.

Thanks for the replies. I hope you got it working Udart. (I like your DV screen capture tutorial.) Did you try using the audio jack input on your machine?

Nice one Cybero I still don't quite get the Itunes visualizer protocol business. Should I be able to run your remake within Itunes?

I was trying to set it up for a QC render as well but for some reason I get no joy using GT's audio rendering example. All help appreciated.

Cheers Joe

Yes, just install to ~/Library/Compositions, boot up iTunes, select the named visualizer and let it render.

Here's a tutorial on working up a visualizer from the standard visualizer template

Here's an Audio Tools tutorial that covers that particular Quartz Crystal hurdle and some example files that accompany that tutorial for which doing the QC audio offline rendering and then re-syncing in GarageBand is just one part of what goes to making a Quartz Builder application, which is what the entire tutorial series is all about.

Thanks Cybero. Gave it some more tweaking and smoothing, got it running in itunes happily now. Please see attached file.

Couldn't find the example files from that link you gave tho! Cheerio

Just keeps getting better :-) - << the Quartz Crystal / Quartz Builder tutorial files are actually on the foot of this URL's page Audio in Quartz Builder C. >>

I originally pointed you in the direction of part A as a good point to begin getting to grips with the offline rendering with audio input.

You're probably better off viewing the pages within the site's frameset for best continuity :-)

By the way this construct works well if you replace the cube with something like GL Point or Line, would love to do Splines, but unfortunately, GL Spline just spits its dummy out in SL .6.1.

Such is life.

As of 10.6.2 the Splines problem is no longer a problem as was the case in 10.6.1.

Re: 3D EQ (Composition by Scratchpole)

This reminded me a something i made not so long ago which is very similar but uses a dae mesh.

I use an audio input patch based on the kineme tools and some java that i found in one of ToneBursts comps. This allows you to display on screen what audio input you are using. I find this very useful as i normally develop using audio from soundflower. Then in a performance environment i use VDMX and audio from my line in. ToneBursts java alows me to change the audio settings when the patch is loaded in VDMX. Many thanks ToneBurst for that jem, hope it is cool with you that its been recycled here. (I have it in my patch library but i believe it will be added to this project)

The mesh is also attached and should work if its on your desktop. (how do you do a url relative to the patch ?)

Also interested to do quartz crystal render of this - i tried a screen capture and it looked rubbish. Thanks for the inspiration to upload some of my work, its my first time and i'm happy to contribute having learnt so much from the patches others have uploaded.

Re: 3D EQ (Composition by Scratchpole)

An impressive and simply efficient use of Audio Tools.

Soundflower is blooming :-)

You could try changing those LFO rotationals to sin, cos and tri - more sinuous IMETD.

Quote:

(how do you do a url relative to the patch ?)

You archived the .DAE with the .qtz in the same folder so that file path should be cogets.dae, if you had put this into a sub folder of your archive folder, then the local yokel path would be ./DAE/cogets.dae, assuming you called your sub folder DAE, just to be really imaginative •~ .

You can also effectively use your own Home folder for projects, thus ~/Movies/ProjectsFolder/DAE/filename.dae, whatever. Of course that is less portable, so when I do projects I use ./DAE upon the DAE sub folders of the individual project folder.
