Mask Video Input

quote's picture

hello all,

i'm currently trying to make the following patch: - in the background there is a video playing - in the foreground i want to add a masking layer to hide certain parts of the video

attached you find an example of what i'm trying to make - see attachment 'mask_example.jpg'

i tried the following example http://superfleamedia.blogspot.co.at/2012/05/tutorial-3d-mesh-constructi... but as soon as i connect the 'mesh creator' to the 'mesh renderer' the video playing in the 'billboard' disappears. (see attachment 'mask_test_1.qtz' and 'screen1.png')

now i read in another forum post, that i should try to put the whole mesh into a 'render in image' patch: http://kineme.net/forum/DevelopingCompositions/MasksinQuartzComposer#com... this worked a little better but not like i wanted - see attachment 'mask_test_2.qtz', 'screen2.png' and 'screen2_bug.png' (which appears as soon as i change the coordinate values of the mesh)

any idea how i can achieve my goal? any help is highly appreciated.

cheers, david

Re: Mask Video Input

(Do you really want 3D meshes? Unstable in QC at present....)

Besides that, sure, you can try putting your mask stuff in a Render in Image patch and either use the Mask Image input on a Billboard (or Sprite), or composite your images prior to the Billboard. In your screen2_bug.png: appears that you simply forgot to use a Clear patch as the bottom layer in Render in Image.

Re: Mask Video Input

thanks for the feedback. yes you're right with the clear patch it works as it should.

you mention that 3d meshes tend to be unstable in qc. is there something like 2d meshes or something similiar.. what would be your approach to get the result as shown in 'mask_example.jpg'?
