Where oh where has my alpha gone?

I am confused by the behavior of alpha in my SL quartz environment. I think something, but I don't know what, has changed. Here is an old .qtz from way back: WhoAreYou. The little guys replicated herein used to be floating with no surrounding black rectangle. But now they don't on my system.

I have made simple compositions using Mask to Alpha and all the available blending options, including Kineme's alpha blending plugin. No joy.

Have I perhaps set some esoteric color space option somewhere's? Have the rules changed?

Try downloading a fresh copy of the Kineme Alpha Mode plugin and install afresh. Unable to reproduce your problem however.

Nope, it's not the Alpha Blend plugin. I've updated that about 3 times. Funny thing is, alpha just doesn't seem to work with sprites, but it works okay with images passed to a Particle System patch.

I'm thinking I must have done something awful to the advanced preferences or some plist somewheres. Very peculiar.

Okay, Google is your friend. A search led me back to this thread here at Kineme: "PNG alpha channel doesn't work in Snow Leopard". It was an out of date GL Tools plugin.

As they say, "never mind."

GL Tools , of course. It's so easy over time to end up with a Plug-Ins installation base that is out of date.
