Re: New book!

okbye - have you bought the book?

has anyone here even seen a review page?

got a review for it?

BTW - like your old website, okbye ::-)**

not even a preview page to be seen for the PDF.

& who is the author?

I personally favour the brilliant book by Zougakousaku - just about the most elegant and informative set of exemplars I've ever seen.

I haven't been keeping up to date with Quartz Composer publications, most of which has been Open Source and via blogs. More working documentation is no bad thing at all.

I'm personally looking forward with a really keen appetite to momo the monster'sReal-Time Motion Graphics with Quartz Composer, which I've going to get pre-ordered on Amazon - two really good authors.

Re: New book!

If I receive it, I'll post some information on it, although I'm not holding my breath. It's been about 7-8 hours since I purchased it. Emailed Mirek with no response, so if you're planning on buying it I'd hold off.

Re: New book!

I bought it but today Mirek send my money back and send this message, (I said great book becouse love the plugins that Mirek made);

Emir,

Unfortunately the book is not ready yet. I’ve issued a refund. Btw. how did you get to the payment page? There are no links on the website linking to the book’s page.

Re: New book!

that's so much clearer •~

[so how did ya get to that page with no link :-) ?

http://www.quartzcomposer.com/plugins/5-motion-sensor

This page confuses me. It implies if you download the Motion Sensor patch it contains all of Kineme's GLTools. It also has this notice on it which is pretty confusing as far as attribution goes.

I wonder if this book will ship with mirek's Obj-C,C++,C Plugin for QC?! :)

Re: New book!

Hey UD,

There is a link to DL the plug. Right under VERSIONS at the top of the page is a button-looking thing with the text Motion Sensor v0.5. Click that to DL.

HTH, and I didn't miss some subtle sardonicism in your post, which is ENTIRELY likely since it is not only early, but completely devoid of caffeine! :P

Cheers,

Chris

Re: New book!

Regarding the book from Momo and Shakinda (I ordered and paid for it in December of 2009); brace yourself for possible publishing delays. It was originally scheduled to be released late last year, then it was rescheduled for May of 2010, and the latest notification that I received from Amazon last month stated that the estimated ship date for Real-Time Motion Graphics with Quartz Composer: A Hands-On Guide to Learning Quartz Composer is now August 2010.

Ack... after re-reading your post, I think I may very well be an no-caffeine-addled idiot.

Please disregard. :)

WTF ? ! :-)

Re: New book!

I wonder why the input ports on his pics of the GLTools patches have the "input___" style ports? Whateva...

Re: New book!

Everything on that website smells so fishy to me - I can't believe that book is going to be anything other than a smattering of blog posts found on the web and one QC + OpenCV XCode project.

Maybe I'm just cynical. I don't know, it just seems like a money making gimmick or something, even how its phrased and presented.

thanks for the update, lee.

Re: New book!

@okbye your audio is deep my friend.

someday i will get the Zougakousaku book, as those examples really blew my mind when i found qc. i was like.. what ? this is a beginner example ? when i finally got all the way into one of those patches and found out it was just a sprite i was even more blown away.

i know i gave myric a hard time when he was planning on making the video exporter better than quartz cyrstal but he has had some interesting ideas for plugins. if any of them are finished i have no idea. i assume you have to email him about his projects as there isn't much info on the site about his plugins.

i have been interested in opencv for about three years. cvjitt examples got me started with it. since then i have built a lot of things with open cv. i made a haar tagger in qc a little while ago. a lot of the open cv stuff can be done with just regular stock qc, like optical flow for example or histo-graming etc... so i find the topic of a book on open cv and qc very interesting.

as of right now i don't have any books on the topic of open CV as the machine learning and haar training stuff was sparse in documentation for a few years. it would be cool to scan a open cv book into my delicious library with the isight.

Re: New book!

By the way, did I mention I have a plugin that allows you to speak code directly into your default microphone, and make new plugins on the fly?

Re: New book!

That's great I'm in, yeah I have a lot of plugin ideas. One of them sends me a dollar each time a Kineme plugin is executed at runtime.

Re: New book!

When I think of Momo, and I'll add I haven't seen many of his comps, I think of this tunnel one where there is a render in image and billboard inside of a Fog macro. That's not how QC works. A billboard won't respond to the Fog macro there, the scene inside of the render in image is what needs to be inside of the Fog environment.

I'm so involved in QC on a day to day, that it is sort of disheartening to think of a book coming out that might betray a fundamental lack of understanding about how Quartz Composer truly works.

I think a good book would have to be a team effort, preferably multiple chapters about specific topics, written by those that have expertise in said topics.

Re: New book!

Well we can see where he's been at from 2005 onwards @ http://la-va.org/momo/qc/ although the examples are only up to 2006 and some do use what is a high level of iteration for 10.6.x, as is plainly evident with the Replicate in Space dependent items.

None of the examples proved that point regarding the Fog patch though; that's a newbie error, one easy to miss, as it doesn't really evidence as a problem :-)

I'd like to see what QC he's done recently.

Good point about the writing of a book about QC.

Re: New book!

BTW - mirek & all - the link was actually cached by Google, which might have been how someone got to that page, if you want to ensure that you don't get that page listed by google, mirek, just edit your robot spider's exclusion zone file [robots.txt] :-) - hope that helps •~
