Chamber of Secrets Mach II : Old Patch Creator with Categories, in SL, minus Search@ cwright: ... and both style patch creators can work at the same time, the only minus is that when you call up the old type, it doesn't have search :-/ (Background - I totally hate how the categories field has been removed from the Patch Library/Creator).

Scratch that... there is a sort of search, you just need to highlight the list and start typing ;-)
Being on Leopard I love how you can type 'tool' or 'numeric' etc after a search token to narrow down from 50 odd patches to less than 10. I think using category searching may be with KineneCore inastalled only not sure.
eg "time tool" or "tim too" gives 7 patches to find the "Patch Time" patch
As opposed to "time" which gives some 40 patches.
To me, what's problematic is not being able to easily see what's a private patch, or see "utilities" or "environments", the skanky patch categories, etc... those kind of things are majorly useful pieces of info that are conveyed to me.
I tend to type the patch name, but I like having the category info right there. In SL, it's sort of there, but there's this long drop down that has category names, and you can't see individual patches. You just have to pick a category, at which time, your search is narrowed. It's less functional because less info is conveyed in the same amount of visual real estate. It's not like it was cluttered to begin with.
Yeah 'improvements' that compromise existing functionality really do it for me on so many levels.
Isn't that what I started saying when they seeded 10.6 all those years ago? sad no one else has really quantified it as succinctly as you have (lots of category complaints, but nothing as forceful as "it's less dense/efficient in terms of screen real estate").
mmmm, and how do you do this ?
Welll..... I still remember "holy crap, the deformers are fast". [Sorry, it's just funny to me still, especially in retrospect... for some reason that comes to mind whenever I get grinding slow performance with some OpenCL setup... deformers seemed fast when they were working on 10x10 grids ;-) .] We were all pretty "wowza" at first, and indeed, I give credit for that achievement, despite other valid complaints.
When I complain about the lack of categories in the patcherator, in fact, I don't get impacted by it much at all, since I already know what all of the patch categories are. I fancy myself a bit of an uber-nerd when it comes to knowing about all of the minutia of everything QC, especially all patches. However, I think it sells newbies short and makes the whole system much more inscrutable, especially with the major lack of documentation of QC.
I'm of the opinion that conveying more info at a single glance is a positive thing. There does get to be a point of visual overload, for sure, but QC wasn't really in danger of that in Leopard.
This wouldn't be a chamber of secrets if I had said how to do it, would it be?
Ho ho ho...
I was wondering if anyone would figure it out ;-) No plugins required, and it's right there in the QC app. I'll pm you.
I didn't want to be the one to ask but seeing as Franz doesn't mind asking can you let me know too for?
(being on leopard it's academic till i upgrade i know)
