Quartz Composer problems in Mountain Lion

mosko145's picture

Hi, I've recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, and am working on quartz 4.6 and for some reason now when I build compositions with quartz, I have trouble putting quite afew of the basic patches into my compositions. patches such as sprite, billboard and particle system will not show up in my composition, where as custom patches such as ones from kineme appear with no problem.... I really need help with this one... any suggestions?

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, I had the same problem plus all alpha channel info became opaque black. I remove 3rd party plugins and patches from both libraries - user&root and all seems functional. I have not done a one on one check to find the culprit(s) thats next.

all alpha channel info became opaque black

That's a well-known problem with early versions of the Kineme AlphaBlendMode patch. Delete all copies of that patch, and instead use the latest version of GLTools.

Really? GL Tools has alpha back in it? I think you may have gotten that mixed up?

Eep. I meant to say: make sure you're using the latest version of GLTools, and if you really need the AlphaBlendMode hack, make sure you're using the latest version of that, too.

Sorry, I was confused. Thanks for catching that, @gtoledo3.

Thanks to all comments & George's reply, downloaded the latest AlphaBlend, and have transparency.

I have another problem with QC & Lion, when I press stop, it crashes and I get: An exception was raised [NSConcreteFileHandle availableData]: Resources temporarily unavailable.

If I say continue, I get -[QCClear _cleanup]: Patch is not running, if I quit, QC disappears. If I use file->close then click on viewer, I get a massive QC crash report.

Any comments very welcome guys, thank you

I would check through all of your loaded plugins and make sure that none of them are outdated, and also that you don't have any "double loaded" with version inconsistency.

There's not a great rule of thumb for this, there are some leopard are plugins that still work ok in mountain lion.

I'd look at anything that handles files, like movie players or directory scanners. I've had that exception from both an older version of kineme's directory scanner, as well as v002 movie player(maybe an old version?) when used in 10.8. I've also had it when models that were importable via the "mesh importer" somehow stopped fitting the spec of the collada loader, and wouldn't import.

yes it was the movie player, the new Beta 4 was a disaster so downloaded the Beta 1 and it works now :) Thank you
