I don't know what to do, I can't make my midi keyboard control simple values in Quartz Composer

I used a similar node program called Magic to connect each note to a different little colored square in a different spot based on the key pressed, that worked. I read the documentation for quartz and I get the flow of values, but I don't see what I am missing. When I connect C1 in the MIDI NOTES RECEIVER to ENABLE a Circle patch, the circle disappears, so I assumed thats because its connecting the negative value of the key not being pressed. I press the key and nothing happens. Is there something I am missing about the logic of this program?! I'm used to using node based visual compositing software and 3D, I don't know what is my problem here.
