Dimensional Limitations

Has anyone else used the 3D stuff in QC enough to notice the unusually close near and far planes? From some testing smokris and I did, we've discovered that while objects get rendered hundreds of units up, down, left, and right, they only get rendered if Z is between 0.2 and 98.2ish.

Usually, near and far planes are close for higher z-buffer resolution, but is this kind of limited range normal, or pretty small?
