Want to use Kinect to create Matt and replace green screen

CliffSchwarz's picture

I think this is relatively simple its just beyond me. My background is in TV and film production, I want to use my kinect to create a Mat so I can shoot with a high end camera and remove the back ground. Basically the same thing as shooting green screen without the screen. I have found various mac drivers and Quartz composer compositions that almost work but all my attempts fall short. I can spend the next 4 weeks trying to learn what I don't know, but I would rather find someone that is smart and can solve this in 2 seconds. Compensation can be discussed

this is how i create a a mask for green / chroma style keying. it uses an open cl kernel so it is only as fast as your graphics card. adjust the blur till you get the edge you want. this uses the a render in image for the depth so you can move the depth masks xy around to line it up with your rgb cam.

On the apple developer website, there is a chromakey example for quartzcomposer. Using that, you can key out the background for the kinect depth image. Then you can then use the composite blend patch to find the right blend mode to blend the rgb and keyed depth image however you need. That would be the most traditional "2D image processing" approach, I think (if there is such a thing when it comes to the kinect).
