WTF?!I few minutes ago I saw the Vade's email (https://gist.github.com/vade/5375035) talking about the Quartz Composer's death. Its a shame. QC makes Apple looks better as a company. A lot of great spectacles in the world are using their technology, a lot of creative people do their work with it. Whats exaclty means "deprecated"? Is the 3th version the last one? I have a lot of expectations in Vuo, but I love QC. It's hard to think in a world without QC. snif rip |
deprecated as in superseded, [in this case, by what?], do not use for a particular purpose, use something else instead, [in this case, use what?].
deprecated as stated in the leak from the dev list seems to be referring to QC not being able to provide a solution for a Retina Display form factor.
Seems really ironic hearing that shortly after the prototyping capabilities of Quartz Composer were being highlighted in the Facebook UI Dev blog .
Also how does that relate to this thread ... http://kineme.net/forum/Programming/RetinadisplaysupportQCView ?
Does the reported work around fail to work anymore due to driver updates, OS changes?
Raises a whole load of questions for sure.
Post Script
It would seem as though reports of QC being deprecated due to Retina Display problems with QC rendered objects are greatly exaggerated.
In an email from Troy Koelling to the quartz composer dev list ...
The Mesh system is still seemingly broken in QC which was what the original dev thread was about that got forked onto this deprecation issue resulting it would seem from plain misinformation.
"greatly exaggerated."
No.
I received an official email from an Apple developer, on my bug report, stating that Quartz Composer was deprecated, and that it was a well known fact it isnt supported at all moving forward..
Troy simply stated its not deprecated in 10.8.
Yup, Troy's statement is most diplomatic. Apple Statement #1: "QC does not support retina display, and will not in the future. QC is deprecated already. We are closing this report." Apple Statement #2: "No, this must have been a mistake. Quartz Composer is not deprecated, and still fully supported in Mountain Lion." Note that Troy made no comment on whether QC will ever support retina display (in Mountain Lion or in any prior/future release). And, in keeping with usual Apple policy, it sheds absolutely no light on what might be deprecated or fully supported in future versions of the OS. And - speaking of Apply policy - remember that Statement #1 was proffered under NDA. So Anton isn't even supposed to tell us if he gets a more informative reply to relating to Bug ID 12328202: "Quartz Composer Mesh system broken beyond repair".
Since Apple touts the MacBook with Retina Display as it's flagship portable Mac and it comes with OSX Mountain Lion, it is tempting to say that "QC is fully supported in Mountain Lion" means that Apple would consider QC crashing on retina macbooks a bug, that they are not closing the bug report, and that Troy is diligently working to get it fixed. But that is wishful thinking not a realistic parsing of Statement #2.
Let's be realistic #1: QC is dead since 10.7 It's a shame, because potentially it was a great tech.
Let's be realistic #2: Apple is now a mobile device company, consumer-level products.
True, but I truly believe Apple want to do something with QC. Just because they still have a QC dev team - as far I know - and Apple is not that company how spend money on a things have no future.
time will tell
sorry but ,can you explain me this? http://img.applesfera.com/2011/12/apple_ropa.jpg LOL :P
I dont think they actually have a team. I think they have a single person on triage.
I get the impression that person asks people who worked on QC previously what to do as necessary. At least I've seen that pattern with other apple stuff over the years. I don't think there needs to be a team when they don't seem to have any direction or focus with where to take it.
