Multiple remotes are most defiantly possible if you do not pair them with a particular machine. I forget how to pair them i think hold down menu or something like that for a few seconds or to go into your preferences. Not sure if you can pair more than one remote to a machine but given the context of using multiple remotes then a pairing may be bad. It also may be possible to get the unique Id. Or at least recording it. There was a clip on YouTube of how to take a remote apart and plug it in backwards to an iPod or something then record your tv remote settings as audio and when you play back the audio through the remote attched to the iPod it will blink the ir in the sequence needed. Just search iPod ir universal remote or something. As per getting the identifier you will more than likely need to something like the Nike sensor hack.
Are multiple remotes actually possible upon the same machine ?
it's possible to use multiple remotes, but I don't know if the remote ID is exposed beyond the kernel/driver...
