How to create colours feedback effects?

RQDC's picture

Hi Guys,

I’m new to Quartz Composer (better late than never!). I was doing some research on this effect: https://goo.gl/FVZ8wi

I discovered that in VVVV it’s called “colorwaveshaper”, do you know if there is something similar in Quartz Composer?

Is it possible to create from scratch?

Cheers!

PS. Any tips or books regarding Quartz Composer?

I think there is no "out of the box" effect patch that would do this. However depending on your source image this may be very easy to implement with a custom Core Image Filter patch. See the attached composition for an example.

No QTZ books I am aware of.

That looks good! Thanks.

My knowledge of Quartz Composer is close to zero however I figured it out how to achieve this effects, creating a composition on After effects with different effects layer. Here is the video https://goo.gl/vF2MxB .

Here below a little scheme that could work in quartz composer ( Unfortunately I'm not sure how quartz composer is structured, so it might makes no sense).

Is it possible to achieve the same effect on quartz composer through this scheme?

Cheers

The scheme looks pretty good, however you may need to code your own Core Image filters to do the HUE shift and the saturation part.

Ok, I'm see the documentation now but I guess it's too complicated to me.

Thanks!

Re: How to create colours feedback effects?

Locate the QuartzComposer.app in Finder.

Highlight it, then hit Ctrl+RightClick to pull up the contextual Finder menu.

Choose "Show Package Contents".

Next, go inside of "Resources/Examples/Image Filters".

Take a look at the image kernel in Zebra.qtz. It's pretty much the exact effect posted, as far as I can tell.

You can also drag this entire composition onto a blank qtz file canvass, and since it is a "image unit" profile, it will configure itself with image input/outputs...with the entire composition macro working as an image filter, basically.

Yes that's great, quite similar to the effect that I want.
